2009 Champion Hurdle Form

This is the page that many will find most useful in their search for the 2009 Champion Hurdle winner. We will endevour to keep you updated on all the relevant pieces of form in the build up to the big race in March.

The first place to start is to look back on the 2008 Cheltenham Festival Champion Hurdle result and go through the race review which will highlight the horses that will look to battle once again in 2009.

The obvious ones that will be back in 2009 are the first three home in Katchit, Osana and Punjabi as they are young enough to be at the fore front of this betting market for many years to come, in some way similar to the way Hardy Eustace, Brave Inca, Macs Joy and Harchibald did battle for the last number of years.

Champion Hurdle Latest Form

In the Maplewood Developments Hurdle Sizing Europe ran a really nice race for his seasonal debut and came second to Hardy Eustace and propelled himself up the betting but there must be a doubt about him getting home up the hill. Jered came home in third and this looked like his bubble is now burst for the Champion Hurdle or maybe he just did not act on the very heavy going.

Binocular made short work of his field in the Betfair Hurdle at Haydock at the end of November and was cut from 9/2 to 7/2 for the Champion Hurdle as Crack Away Jack (7s from 11/2) met with defeat at Ascot against the Henderson mare Chomba Womba who was cut to 12/1 for the Champion

The Grade 1 Bar One Racing Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhose at the November Meeting was won by Catch Me who has been cut to 20/1 (from 25) for both the Champion Hurdle.

The Fighting Fifth is always a decent trial and this year we saw a calssic with the 2007 Champion Hurdle winner Sublimity just being touched off by Punjabi and both are good outsiders for the race in March.

Did we see the winner of the Champion Hurdle with the performace of Binocular in the Boylesports International and is now the clear favourite for the March showpiece.

The enigmatic Harchibald sprung a surprise in the Stan James Christmas Hurdle and has been cut for the Champion Hurdle to 12-1 (from 20).

Former Champion Hurdler Sublimity was cut for the 2009 renewal from 16s to 12/1 by Stan James in the aftermath of his Grade 1 success at Leopardstown over xmas but connections of favourite Binocular will not have been too concerned by events across the Irish Sea and the Nicky Henderson four-year-old has been cut from 6/4 to 11/8. Sizing Europe pulled too hard for his own good and is out to 8s from 6s. He has much to prove.
